“Here’s what matters most in the Covid-19 pandemic”

As a lay monk I would be remiss not to address the spiritual dimension of the COVID-19 crisis.  This 29m16s video features Rev. Costi Hinn discussing “Here’s what matters most in the Covid-19 pandemic

What Rev. Hinn has to share is what I’d characterize as the “first steps” in the covenanting process (A process the early believers referred to as “The Way” and which includes repentance/redemption, deliverance, empowerment, and sanctification).

Now, mind you, as an American Indian (Bureau of Indian Affairs CDIB card holder & member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma) I am emphatically not interested in strong-arming or coercing people into taking my perspective on or advocacy of anything. My indigenous ancestors valued individual choice and conscience though sadly they were often forced to accept customs, practices and more that they found reprehensible or otherwise objectionable.

So I do not come to you with the intention of violating your power to choose what you believe and do in life. You can elect to play the video of Rev. Hinn, or not. And if you do hear him out, you are at certainly liberty to disagree with and reject what he says. How can it be otherwise? After all God forces no one to believe in him or to accept his terms for entering into and cultivating a relationship with him. Why would he want to be surrounded by those who he had to force into a relationship with him? (Would you want to be surrounded by folks you had to force to hang around you?)

Whether your way or The Way, you won’t (ahem) ruffle my feathers.

For those who do set out on The Way, here are some helpful resources to inform, guide & empower your journey:

💀 Everything you ever wanted to know about post-death decomposition (“Body Farm”video) 💀

Depositphotos_80158370_originalCurious about what kinds of physical changes happen post mortem? The video below will fill in many blanks. Of greater concern to you is likely how and when you’ll shuffle off this mortal coil. Naturally, most of us prefer to “stage left” with as little pain and discomfort as possible, something medical science has make more certain than was true long ago. But die we must. The larger question is what lies afterwards – click to read.  First, satisfy your curiosity about what becomes of your “earth suit” after death and then read what follows below.

As well as what happens if you elect to donate your body to science:

Life after deathSo you know what’s coming: You die and then face judgment. It is natural to think “Well, OK, I  think my good deeds outweigh my bad so I am good to go, right?” Wrong.  Ahem, dead wrong. The penalty for sin either must be paid by you or by someone qualified to pay it for you. The trick is there is only one individual who qualified to pay the penalty or consequences for your sins which he did. However, like a gift certificate purchased for you by a benefactor, you have to claim or redeem it and then follow the directions that come with it to cultivate and preserve it (Salvation is a process). So how do you go about this? :

Following Messiah and living the faith authentically is countercultural & radical. One way to do so is in intentional community as a lay monk or nun (Married or single is OK)

Not your grandfather’s Jesus

Judaism Starburst grunge backgroundIf you grew up embracing the Americanized Jesus I’d like you to take a moment and read Jesus and Yeshua: An Examination of Cultural Icons. This insightful article was written by a perceptive young man named Jeriah Bowser who is the Ecology & Sustainability Department chair at the Hampton Institute.

Naturally, we all tend to endorse views that parallel or even mirror our own, and I am no exception. However, while we all cherry-pick reality  to varying degrees, the thrust of critical biblical scholarship does IMO tend to favor Bowser’s perspective (Which is one I pretty much arrived at many moons ago).

Consulting Crystal Ball for Future of EarthAs a boy (1960s-70s) growing up in South in a  world of fundamentalist & evangelical Christians I not infrequently heard pulpit & TV sermons about “The End Times” (Eschatology). Later Hal Lindsey’s books (such as “The Late, Great Planet Earth“) appeared and with this Christian “future think” consumed millions who might not have otherwise ever even heard of such speculation. Lindsey’s peculation proved to be largely wrong but it was still good fun to mull over & debate. Of course, predictions were revised as they failed to materialize as one would expect.
