Photos & 2 videos of fire plagued Twisp (Washington) from Jim Haverlock (Web Wizards)

2010011314512835JimHaverlock-LMy partner in Web Wizards, Jim Haverlock, lives in Twisp, Washington, which has been the focus of national and international media coverage due to the major fires raging nearby and throughout the region. At one point Wednesday (August 19, 2015) night the flames came menacingly close to Jim’s place. A neighbor’s son, Sean Wilson, shot the photos below during the afternoon and into the night using his cell phone.

At nearly 11 pm Jim and his neighbors were told to “peg out” (evacuate) by firemen manning trucks just outside his residence, which they did. After a fitful night in a motel in a nearby town, Jim found out the fires that were moving towards his street had been beaten back by firefighters. He returned to Twisp Thursday morning and, thankfully, found his little abode untouched by fire and his power, water, phone and Internet services still in play.

Jim, who has been battling multiple sclerosis for over 21 years, gets about in a motorized scooter. His trips to nearby supermarkets, his bank, local places of worship plus various outdoor markets and such, has made him a familiar sight (A “human landmark”?)

Rebooting your life: “The Big (not so easy) ‘Reset’ Button” by Jim Haverlock

An office supply store has in their advertising a “large red easy button” that serves as an inspiration for this short message.

Many people find it hard to imagine starting over again. Whether it’s after a divorce, the loss of a loved one, or the development of a physical disability, it can be hard to even think of leaving the house again, much less address the changes that a person’s life will inevitably undergo.

How one man turned adversity into opportunity

Jim Haverlock has seen more peaks & valleys than most of us. Athlete in HS and now scooter-bound due to multiple sclerosis. Millionaire owner of a furniture chain who went broke, worked out of his car for a time,  and now runs his own virtual business and provides web building & optimization services too. Abandoned by his wife after he was misdiagnosed as having ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) — but now (in his seventies) sharing love & life with his “African Queen.”  Dreamed of being a missionary as a young man — tabled this — and fulfilled this calling more than five (5) decades later by founding a nonprofit charitable organization called Compassion Care! The Jim Haverlock Story: How losing it all made him a winner

Jim Haverlock shares how he found it all by losing it all. A great antidote to the Gospel of Unbridled Consumerism that dominates the thinking and actions of so many folks: http://14ushop.com/haverlock/articles/1-giving%20it%20all%20up%20for%20freedom.pdf
